It was mortifying, really. But yes, Parvati was rushing home to feed her habit. A recently developed habit, brought on by a stroll through Muggle London, and the fortuitous discovery of a street faire she'd never heard of. Hoping to find some interesting clothes and accessories, Parvati rummaged through the stalls, finding more than she ever could have hoped for. And there it was, sitting innocuously on a table filled with all kinds of worn, boring-looking, leather-bound books. A box full of ragged paperbacks, all adorned by the worlds most with embarrassing cover art, and nearly every book had the word 'Passion' in its title. Parvati only opened the first book to get a laugh, but found herself reading two pages before the man behind the table coughed to get her attention.
"Yer can 'ave the lot of em' for five quid."
Parvati put the book down immediately, feeling her cheeks burning. "Oh, no," she said. "I was just..."
"Suit yerself," the woman said, smirking.
Parvati continued through the market, but she couldn't get the books out of her mind. Goodness, but it had been so much more detailed than some of the Wizarding novels she'd come across. What she and Lavender wouldn't have given to get hold of something like that at school, she thought.
Well, if I am going to sit at home lonely every night, I could be reading about people having sex, even if I'm too afraid to do it myself.
Naturally, she went back for the books, averting her eyes to escape the Muggle's smug expression as she handed her the money.
And since then, she was hooked, reading mindless, sex-filled, cheerful, badly-written stories about people with names like Brock and Cerise. And though it certainly wasn't going to raise her intelligence level, it was a lot more entertaining than her medical books.
Yes, she thought. I am--officially--pathetic. But hey, I haven't dreamed about the abduction in weeks. And I go to sleep with a smile on my face, don't I?
