Neville glanced around his rather threadbare kitchen, pleased with the bouquet of flora that sat in the middle of his plain oak table. It was mostly just greenery, but the pansies he'd included gave it a cheerful bit of colour that brightened up the whole room.
He checked the dish of tinned stew topped with tinned biscuits that was warming in the oven, casting a quick tempus as he saw that it was nearly perfect.
He went to the front of the house to ensure that he didn't miss the arrival of two of his oldest friends.
