So I finished His Dark Materials on Saturday. I really didn't like it very much at the beginning, but the ending changed my opinion completely. I didn't see it coming at all.
Well, I did. I knew that was going to happen at some point, but I didn't think that was all it took to fix everything. I especially liked the way "tell them stories" worked out. And Balthamos, I was glad to see him again too. I had completely forgotten about him.
They're currently working on the HDM movies (The Golden Compass is due in 2007), but they've announced that they're cutting religion completely from the story. I can see why they're doing that, it just wouldn't work in a movie that has to cater to general audiences, but still. How are they going to pull it off? How is the ending going to work now? I don't see it happening.
And they want Nicole Kidman to play Mrs. Coulter. I don't like Nicole Kidman! But Mrs. Coulter is the best! Bah!
If I were ten years older, I could definitely play Mrs. Coulter. You know, if I had any acting experience. I'd do a damn good job.
I wonder who they want to play Lord Asriel?
