see i tried to look at it that way too...but where it keeps getting me is when it says they each originally paid 10 right...then each got one dollar back...so technically they did each only pay 9.... even without multiplying if u just add 9+9=18+9=27 then 2 to the bell boy= 29 still i dont get it...i know technically it is not possible...but thats the part that keeps fucking getting me

Yes they only payed $9 a piece,
They originally paid $30, which is $10 a piece. he gave back a dollar per which makes it $27, then take his 2 bucks and whamo $25. Its just a rather odd way to go about the math. Another way to look at it, is they did pay $10 a pop to begin with, 10x3=30, then they got a buck back so it was 9x3=27 then take his 2 away and you got $25.

so we are trying to add to 25? not the original 30? in this sense i understand the math if you minus and not add...hmmm i think i am getting this now..thank you!
$27+$2=$29
its really $25+$3+$2=$30
$25 for the room, $3 to each of the guys and $2 to the bellboy.
