What a shit day...We finally got most of the paperwork out of the way for our new car (our '05 VW Jetta GLS) and we're paying out of the ass for almost everything. We got approved by Air Force FCU for a loan at 8.19% (Brad doesn't have much for credit and what was there wasn't as flawless as they'd like it) so our payments are the $400/mon range. USAA is charging us $5750+/year for insurance in Italy (NEVER buy a brand new car in Europe!) making our monthly payments close to $500! And..AND...that's ONLY if we keep my piece-of-shit Eclipse - which is dying in our driveway. Apparently it's cheaper for us to have both cars.
Italy's SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement) doesn't allow us to sell my car to Italian citizens - and our dealer has strongly advised us against shipping it to Germany to sell (we'll get almost nothing for it if we do because of all the fees involved and car work it'll entail)...so that's out of the question. We were going to try and sell it to other airmen, but we have to get it up to code to pass base inspection in order to do so (charging us money, we don't have, for engine/body work on it). We're really only guaranteed about $1500 max. for this hunk of crap and it's probably not really doing us much good because we have to try and keep it just to keep our insurance premium down!
We're still making loan payments to Eglin FCU for Brad's Ford F-150 so he's going to try to convince his mom to either buy/sell the truck or start making 1/2 payments on it for us (because she's been riding around in Cali in it and WE'RE the ones making all payments on it). Needless to say, the bills are piling up and only plan to skyrocket to unattainable figures in the near future. Oh, and we finally got accepted to move into GHRP housing (Gov't Housing Rental Properties - free-rent duplexes), but frankly we can't afford the salary-cut we'll receive to move in. Stuck between a rock and a really-fast-moving-rock...With our baby-on-the-way it's all just a big ball of crazy financial stress!
I just wanted to get this all off my chest - growing up's a real pain in the ass.
