It's obvious that he's been crying recently, but other than that, he's looking much better than he had been. The bruising and swelling have gone down considerably and he doesn't look like he's about to die anymore. Still, his mouth looks a mess and seeing him for the first time would probably still be rather shocking.
When they enter, he looks up and gives a shy little smile. "Hi, guys..."

His eyes widen happily at the thermos. The watery potato soup the hospital serves is starting to get to him already. "Ohhh, soup! Fanks for that too. I bet it's good."

He shifts to sit up better for eating and the movement hurts enough to make him go pale under his bruises. Still, it's the only indication of pain that he gives. He's gotten very good at hiding it.

"I...uhm." It is a bit embarrassing, but not terribly so. He blushes faintly and shakes his head. "Not so good wiv a spoon yet. I'll get more soup on me 'n in me." There's a weak, apologetic chuckle as he moves his finger along the rim of the cup. "'Course, first time I tried to use a straw, it was just as bad...but I'm better now."
