Tutorial made in Photoshop, uses selective coloring, non-translatable.
go from this:
to this:
1. Crop your image to 100 x 100
2. Duplicate your base image and set the duplicate to overlay with the opacity of 50%.
3. Layer > New Fill Layer. Fill it with color #F0E4CE and set it to multiply.
4. Layer > New Fill Layer. Fill it with color #DADADA and set it to multiply.
5. Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color. Put in these settings:
REDS:
Cyan = -100
Magenta = 0
Yellow = +100
Black = 0
YELLOWS:
Cyan = +10
Magenta = 0
Yellow = -100
NEUTRALS:
Cyan = +5
Magenta = 0
Yellow = +5
6. Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves. Put in these settings:
RGB:
Input: 113
Output: 145
7. Duplicate your base image, drag it to the top of all the layers and set it to screen with the opacity of 50%.
8. On that screen layer, Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen
