Protesting the War

I was just saying to Phebe yesterday that I would have loved to have been a part of the protests during the Vietnam era. I point to reading about all of the protests and sit-ins as the start of my fascination with politics in general. That and I vividly remember Watergate because that's all my parents watched ( Read more... )

My hubby was bummed that they didn't organize local protests to coincide with this. He would have been there in an instant and I would have joined him! I never pictured myself as a political activist, but that a**hole in the White House is quickly turning me into one!

I just said to Rob, I would have packed all three of us in a car last night to be there.

What is the organization you told me about a couple of weeks ago? You were too sick to go to that rally but I'd like to check in on their website for more rallies in our area.

We live in an area where it would be hard to get a rally off the ground though. A large group of National Guard troops live here. They staunchly back the Commander in Chief in this. You can't blame them. Its their sworn duty. I tread very lightly participating in neighborhood discussion. But they do respect my opinion and know that eventhough I don't support the politics, I support our troops.

Moveon.org I'm sure you're aware of them. They organized the local thing here a few weeks ago and are actively involved in this Washington one. Here is a link: http://moveon.org/

I went to Vietnam War protests with my mom when I was a kid. Memories!

The last protest I went to was in January 2001, after the 2000 "election". Only a couple hundred people attended.

I keep telling myself that I should go to these anti-war protests but they're always in January and it's so cold!
