Having a late flight home, as usual, sleeping as late as possible is a good thing. Too bad I can't seem to do that in Vegas. Downstairs I headed while Nyssa still slept. The idea was coffee while I played a few slots. The coffee part didn't happen. By the time a cocktail waitress headed my way I was parched and opted for ginger ale to quench the thirst. Our night had ended with her playing Invaders from Planet Moolah while I was on the John Wayne machine nearby. It didn't treat me quite as well this morning as it had last night, but it also didn't suck money out of my wallet and gave me a fair bit of time for my dollars.
Once Nyssa was ready we checked out and left our bags at the Bell Desk to be retrieved later when we were ready to head for the airport. First, though, it was time for lunch. I had grabbed a Groupon for the Florida Cafe. This was our third time eating here and something we might have done without the discount, since the food is reasonably priced to start with. It's not the most convenient location but worth the trip. We both opted for the steak milanesa with a side of their amazing moros y cristianos (rice and black beans). The side alone is worth the visit.
The afternoon included time at Tropicana using another coupon for the slots machines. We pretty much just gambled today, no activities planned. We had decided on Burger Bar for tonight's dinner but ended up not really being hungry. We had scoped out all the eateries at our hotel, including the food court, but nothing there grabbed our attention either. I'm pretty sure we passed on dinner altogether.
The last of our Vegas time was spent back at the Excalibur, where the machines insisted on sucking every possible dollar out of Nyssa's wallet before we headed for the airport. Taxi to the airport cost more than expected, but not an outrageous amount in total. Uneventful flight home, slight delay in Newark on the way back but only a few minutes.
Weather in Vegas was delightfully warm compared to home. We never once had to put on a sweater. I mostly carried my shawl around and hardly even needed that. It's kind of funny to see locals bundled up when we're finding it almost summer-like. It was also a nice change from last summer's unusually warm visit where the temps were around 110 F for the whole trip.
This summer's trip is a mere 37 days away. How did that creep up on me so fast? Nearly everything is set for that trip - flights booked ages ago, hotels in place, meals planned, coupons bought, itinerary made and revised. And revised. And will generally continue to be revised even while we're there. At least we're smart enough this time, after last summer's heat, to plan much later dinners when we can.
