Cooling off
The weather that is. And not a day too soon, we were averaging 88 F in the house the last few days and being lucky if it got down to 84 in here at night. We didn't get the thunderstorms yesterday afternoon but they passed by close enough to the south of us that we are now reaping the benefits of cooler days.
Been at the new job for a couple weeks. Training is done and it's okay. Need more hours, though, as us new folks are lucky to get 10-15 hours a week. Ten is the most I've had so far and only 5 hours this week. Mind you, they tried to call me to fill in for a no show on Monday but our phones were wonky and we didn't know it. Something wrong with the cordless, so we've unplugged those and are using the old corded phone. Clearly not a problem with the lines.
Still not registered for Sirens, need to pay bills first, about $750 in utility bills to deal with. Plus the cell phones.
Got 2 lovely packages from Amanda in the mail this week. One was my Christmas gift, which had proved unsuitable for carrying home on the plane. Snape has arrived, along with additional goodies of a t-shirt, a tiny Harry Potter Lego. Also got our anniversary gifts - a mini chicken that will be sitting on the coffee table indefinitely because it's totally awesome and a copy of Jenny Lswson's Let's Pretend This Never Happened that's signed to us by the author. Amanda, you are made of awesomeness. And thank you for not sending a huge metal chicken! :)
Speaking of Lego (and I was, see above paragraph), I didn't know until Nyssa told me that there is Lord of the Rings Lego. I want it. All of it. And if I had $500 kicking around that I didn't need for other necessities then I might be tempted in buying the whole lot of it. Good thing I'm broke, isn't it?
