I made sloppy joes tonight, and they were yummy! I have a big pan of them left, so that should keep me fed for a few days. If that weren't enough, I also baked homemade pizza last night. Also yummy.
I've been meaning to try and make a pineapple upside down cake, but that hasn't seen fruition yet.
I have, however, made tentative decisions on books for the Fall semester classes:
World Civilization 1
Bhagavad Gita
Song of Roland (French medieval epic)
US History 1
Hamilton vs. Jefferson: Confrontations that Shaped a Nation (primary documents with narrative)
Civil Disobedience and Other Essays (We'll probably just use "Civil Disobedience" and "Slavery in Massachusetts." The whole book is just $1.50.)
US History 2
Plunkitt of Tammany Hall: A Series of Very Plain Talks on Very Practical Politics (urban political corruption)
If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me up and Ship Me Home (Vietnam)
I kicked around doing The Sun Also Rises or a book about Coney Island for US History 2, but I think we'll go with what I have. I like to use Plunkitt as a handout anyway, so I might as well assign the book, and I've been wanting to use a Vietnam novel for a while.
In addition, I'm thinking about having them do a project on either propaganda or protest music for US History 2. We'll probably also do a movie project, because the last time I did that, it went over really well.
And maybe a monument or architecture project for Civilization 1.
Have you guys done any projects in History classes over the years that you found interesting or even fun?
