A Letter Meme and RIP Jerry Reed

Sep 03, 2008 00:24

Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list ten things you love that begin with that letter. Afterward, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

I got a T from deviantfantasy

1. Torchwood: This is just a fantastic show, and I've grown to love all the characters. And I love that the show takes chances. A few years ago, I never would have thought that a well-written sci-fi show featuring a canon slash couple would have been possible. It goes against the grain, and it does so without compromising the stories.

2. Tim O'Brien: As in the author. I think my first experience with Tim O'Brien was The Things They Carried, but I might just love Going After Cacciato a little more. O'Brien's style clicks with me, and I find him to be an incredibly compelling author.

3. Theater: I did theater (mostly musical) in high school and earlier grades, so I'm a nerd for the stuff. I wanted to keep with it in college, but I didn't have time. I still have the star with my name on it from my first role--I was in the second grade and played a munchkin in the high school production of The Wizard of Oz.

4. Trains: My dad was a railroader and I grew up in a railroad town, so I collect train stuff.

5. Teaching: It has its ups and downs, but I love to teach.

6. Thirteen Days: Specifically, I'm referring to the movie about the Cuban Missile Crisis. You may or may not know this, but I'm a nerd for Robert Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis. I've actually watched this movie with the transcripts of the Kennedy tapes in my lap, so I could follow along. It's not 100 % accurate, but as Hollywood history goes, it's not bad. Anyway, the movie stars Kevin Costner with a bad accent, Bruce Greenwood, and Steven Culp, who does a fabulous job of portraying Bobby.

7. T-shirts: There's nothing like a comfy t-shirt when you're lounging around the house.

8. Taggart's: This is an old time ice cream place in the area. It has a great atmosphere and good food.

9. Talking Heads: I discovered them back in high school and became obsessed with the band. Basically, they were like to a fandom to me (along with The Cars, The Cure, and U2).

10. "Tabula Rasa:" My favorite episode of Stargate: Atlantis. Lots of pill-popping Lorne, mad scientist Radek, and exasperated Ronon.

Dammit! Now Jerry Reed has died. I grew up listening to his stuff. :( RIP
