Yeah, I was thinking along similar lines. I don't mind the implication that the attraction was strong early on (In fact, I quite like it), but it did cause me to reevaluate my personal little fanon.
I don't view it as a retcon. I think Ianto was just taken by surprise at how attracted he was to Jack in the beginning. But I don't think he really acted upon it. Because he still had Lisa and she was his number on concern, so I don't think he would've slept with Jack prior to Cyberwoman either, taking into account the attraction in the beginning too.
It was evident that Jack & Ianto had a thing in Everything Changes, but it just proves that Ianto hid it well from the others save for flirting back when Jack flirted with him.
I thought from the very first episode that there was something between them. GDL also says that RTD intended it right from the start, and it is evident with the flirting in the first ep. I thought it was flirting and UST at the time. Then in the second ep, with his response to the question about Jack being gay I wondered if it was more. In Cyberwoman, I was convinced there was something by their level of emotion toward each other, and the way they reacted. Plus the kiss.
I think GDL's take on it makes perfect sense. It was there as and attraction, which Ianto used to help with Lisa, then after she was dead, the attraction was still there, and it could flourish. This I'm quoting from that vid of him at the Canadian convention this weekend.
