Answers to favorite character meme

Here are the answers to the favorite character guessing meme I posted yesterday:

The three that weren't guessed were Doctor Who, LOST, and NCIS.

1. Stargate: Atlantis: Major Evan Lorne. To be fair, it's probably a five-way tie between Sheppard's team and Lorne, but I always perk up a little more than usual when I find out Lorne is going to be on, so he edges out the competition slightly. I love his dry sense of humor, his dimples, and the way his backstory is trickling out ever-so-slightly. It's amazing how Lorne started out as this one-off role on SG-1, but he's developed into a character with a history and quite a fan following.

2. Stargate: SG-1: Doctor Daniel Jackson. Is there another answer? I love Daniel because I relate to him on multiple levels. Some of you probably don't know this, but I was originally an Anthropology major before I switched to English and History. In fact, I'll probably go back and get a degree in Anthropology once I finish with History.

3. Torchwood: Ianto Jones. This is another no-brainer. Again, I relate to him a lot. I love that he's connected to things like diaries and old films, and I love his snarky demeanor.

4. CSI: Nick Stokes. If you've known me for any length of time, you know I'm a Nick gal, though most of my friends prefer Greg. I love Nick's Southern charm, his grin, and the way he's developed as a character throughout the years. He started out as this naive guy, but he's grown into a seasoned pro who still knows how to relate to people.

5. Doctor Who: Donna Noble. No one even attempted to guess this one! I'm surprised that Donna has grown in my affections so much that she's surpassed Ten himself. I love her gusto. I mean, what other woman would demand a salute from a member of UNIT?

6. House: Dr. James Wilson. He's a teddy bear that walks around in a lab coat. That's the best way I can describe him. I love how he can handle House in a way that no one else can. At the same time, though, he's almost as screwed up as House, but in a different way.

7. LOST: Benjamin Linus. No one guessed this one, to my surprise! I love so many characters on the show, but Ben wins by leaps and bounds. I love the twisted bastard so much, and I want loads more backstory on him. Michael Emerson plays him with such creepy subtly, so every week, he's a joy to watch. I love that he's always got a plan in the works, I love that he knows how to mess with people's heads, and I love how he's so damn matter-of-fact about all the weird stuff that happens on the island.

8. Heroes: Nathan Petrelli. Matt Parkman is a close second, and to be honest, as good as they are apart, they're so much more win together. I love Nathan's complexity. You can't just dismiss him as a "good guy" or a "bad guy," because those labels are too constricting. He's a decent guy who does the wrong things for the right reasons and sometimes the right things for the right reasons. Plus, he's got the snark, and I love the snark.

9. Criminal Minds: Doctor Spencer Reid. He's so much different from the other characters on the show, because he's a mix of brilliance and innocence. It's easy for the characters (and viewers) to forget how young and inexperienced at life he is, because he knows so much. I keep thinking back to the episode where Gideon bought him football tickets and told him to take JJ, because "she's the only person who calls you Spence." Totally clueless.

10. NCIS: Tony DiNozzo. This is the last one that wasn't guessed. I love Tony for the reasons I love so many other characters... He's a smart ass with a cute smile, but at the same time, he's much more than that. There are dimensions to his character that we only see in rare instances.

11. Firefly: Hoban "Wash" Washburn. At first, I latched onto Simon and Mal, but Wash has won me over. I love how he interacts with the other characters--his dialogue is some of the best on the show. In particular, I love how he can be so snarky to Jayne and so loving to Zoe. I'm also predisposed to love pilots. Stick a guy in a cockpit, and I'll fall in love.

12. Star Wars: Han Solo. I was in love with Harrison Ford when I was ten. Han Solo, Indiana Jones... He was the flawed action hero with a heart. I loved Han's banter with Leia, I loved how his character unfolded from a closed-off cynic to a bonafide hero, and I love his reckless nature. I was talking with some friends a few weeks ago, and we all agreed that there are few actors who could totally embody two completely separate but totally iconic characters (Han and Indy)--three if you count Jack Ryan--without it overwhelming his career, but the one guy we all thought did it was Harrison Ford. He's an American treasure. :)

13. CSI: NY: Detective Don Flack. I fell in love with him almost instantly. In fact, I wrote my first Danny/Flack fanfic a week or two after the show debuted, even though Danny and Flack had only done one scene together. I think I saw the potential in the character before it was realized. But now? It's definitely been realized. I love so many of the little character quirks about him--how he was afraid to go in that allegedly haunted church that time or how he's the emotional rock of the group.

14. Farscape: John Crichton. Besides the fact that he's played by the drop-dead gorgeous Ben Browder, I love how Crichton struggled to keep his sanity together when he found himself thrust into this bizarre situation of being on ship filled with alien fugitives. And his considerable chemistry with Claudia Black's Aeryn Sun is a selling point.

15. X-Men: Jean-Paul Beaubier. Again, those who have known me for a while know that I wrote my Master's Thesis on representations of LGBT characters in mainstream superhero comic books. Jean-Paul was the first major Marvel superhero to be openly gay, and unlike a lot of other characters, his character was intended to be gay pretty much from the beginning. He's snarky, handsome (he's sometimes drawn to look a bit like Ian Somerhalder), and has freakishly amazing powers.
