I have finally seen the Stargate: Atlantis premiere! Here are my comments:
First of all, let me say that this episode was fantastic!
Rodney: I've noticed that some fans don't "get" Rodney. They dismiss him as just an arrogant jerk with great one-liners. This episode highlighted the fact that he's more than that. When Elizabeth's life was in danger, we got to see the compassionate sap who was willing to do something reckless to save his friend's life. The tension between John and him was lovely (and will lead to more fanfics, I'm fairly sure).
John: After Elizabeth was injured and the hyperdrive failed, you could see the burden of command settle into Sheppard's face. It was nicely understated, but it was there, nonetheless. Nice job on JF's part.
Zelenka: For a few minutes, I worried that they might kill off Radek. (These are the same boneheads who killed off my beloved Carson...) All during the spacewalk to fix the hyperdrive, I was expecting that one of those micro-asteroids would hit him and that he would have to sacrifice himself to save the city. I'm pleased I was only half-right. ;)
Weir: I'm not a big fan of her, and I never have been. I've tried to warm up to her, but I just don't connect. I really won't miss having her on the show. The scene where Ronon came to see her was quite nice, though. I'm growing to like Ronon.
Sam: I love Sam, but it bugs me when they characterize her as always being right. She was introduced into SG-1 as an astrophysicist. Now, she seems to have astronomical ability in every single branch of science. If she had been on Atlantis when Weir was dying, Rodney wouldn't have had to activate the nanites. Sam would have performed an unheard of medical procedure that would not only save Weir, but also revolutionize medicine! Seriously. In short, I love Sam, but I hope the writers give her intellectual prowess limits and allow the character to have flaws.
Lee: And is Lee going to be recurring on the show? I love Lee and his gray matter! I really want to see Lee come up with some brilliant idea that neither Sam nor Rodney can come up with. He gets so little respect. :( :(
The one thing missing for me was Lorne. I've developed an obsession with the actor and the character, so I would love it if he was on more often.
I also finished the Michael Shanks Eureka episode.
I can say that Michael looked scruffy and gorgeous--> >
Okay, so I've never seen the show before. A bunch of stuff happened with some kid named Kevin. It was obviously pretty important, because they brought it up dozens of times.
The reason I watched the episode was Michael, though, and he was fantastic. Yes, I'm biased. So what? He played an artist, a sculpter. He worked around hot ovens all day, so of course, he had to wear a white tank top the whole time. :D The character he played was an alchemist, and because of his actions, one of his students accidentally unleased a bacterial plague that broke down metal. At the end of the episode, the characters discovered that the virus had spread to humans.
Michael's character was still alive at the end of the episode, so maybe he'll make another appearance.
