Round, round, get around, I get around
Florida day 2
February 7, 2010
I really like writing the date now. Somehow, writing 2010 is kinda fun.
Anyway, today was a day for getting things together for me to be on my own. I only slept about five hours last night, and I’m so tired now I can hardly stand it. I managed to get outside and relieve Olga on my own this morning. Dan didn’t get back from the non launch till close to nine. I always feel more confident in a strange hotel when I can take care of my dog easily, so relieving her on my own was important.
When Dan got back we grabbed something from the breakfast room here, and then Dan slept several hours while I read email and fan fiction, and transferred some books from audible onto my VR Stream.
When Dan got up we decided to go have a sit down lunch. There is a Bob Evans restaurant near the hotel, and since I’ve heard of them a lot, we decided to go there. Good down home cooking. You know, the one thing my biological mother can do is cook damn well. Southern cooking. Bob Evans reminds me of that kind of cooking, so of course, I had to have the biscuits and gravy. They had a special drink they call a caramel mocha, which I ordered, thinking it would be a coffee drink, but it tasted like a hot chocolate drink, no coffee. But the food was excellent. They have a braille menu, and I had fun reading all the items and planning future visits before I go home next month. There are no Bob Evans restaurants in our part of the country! The best thing was the service, the warm friendly atmosphere, the manager coming around and chatting, even bringing our food, the waitress, an older lady from Boston, who had no problem chatting comfortably with the customers. It was the kind of place that makes you feel like someone said, come on in and set a spell. I don’t normally like eating in restaurants alone, but I can see me going back there.
Then we drove all over looking for dog food. Dan had brought his GPS so we got driving directions, but the first store we checked didn’t have Olga’s brand of food, so we had to go off on a hunt for the correct food. Dog food is such a serious under taking, especially for this dog. At last we got directions, stopped at starbucks to feed my caramel frappuccino addiction, and then found the correct dog food
Dan didn’t want to go grocery shopping till after the super bowl started, so we came back here, Dan slept more and I read more.
Finally, at about super bowl start, we left. I stopped at the front desk to arrange my ride to Freedom tomorrow and then we drove off to go find the Freedom scientific building, just so Dan could describe it to me. And finally, we ended up at the grocery store.
Now, I truly loathe grocery shopping. Fortunately, we found some good stuff, lots of non freezer necessary microwave meals or soups, some lunch meat and cheese, paper towel, and even a single real honest to goodness metal fork, spoon and knife, some dish soap, more wine … yeah, enough to last me a couple weeks, I hope. Food that is.
We drove through a taco bell for a quick dinner and returned to the hotel. Dan was getting ready to leave. He’s going back to the cape for the launch, which we hope will happen. Then he’s going to drive to Miami and other spots he wants to visit. Most likely, he won’t be back before he returns home on Wednesday.
But it took forever. I still needed him to help me with a few things around the hotel, but he was watching the game, then packing his stuff, then showering and shaving, then, and then, and then …yeah, you get the idea. I was tired and sore and beginning to stress out over my need to go to bed because of my need to get up early tomorrow! I know Dan doesn’t really realize how tired I get and how much pain I have by the end of the day, so none of that is really meant to be critical, just a small vent of the frustration. Next time, I’ll try harder to find a female friend to go with me. But Dan was a huge help to me, and I don’t mean to come off as ungrateful. I just have a little wish, that he would be sight seeing and returning in the evenings, especially tomorrow, so I had a real person to tell all the delights of the day. I mean, after all, tomorrow I start the job, and I’m sure I’ll want to unwind and chatter aimlessly about everything tomorrow night!
Well, I’d like to try to write my thoughts about tomorrow, but I have to say, I’m just too tired to have many thoughts right now. Tomorrow will be here, and the new adventure will begin. That’s a good thing.
Oh, funny Olga. I have two beds in this room, and when we got back from the last relieving and saying goodbye to Dan, she jumped up on the other bed, not mine, and is soundly sleeping. Traitor!!!
Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for their Super Bowl win tonight! This is good for their city, after all, they have all been through so much sorrow.
Ok, off to sleep before I crash and burn! I’m not taking any sleeping aids tonight. Nature and a glass of milk seem to be doing the trick.
