Doctor Who Season 6b Premiere Reaction/Review

Aug 27, 2011 15:46

I managed to find a good livestream after all, so I got to watch the epp before any possible power loss, yay for that! \o/ On the other hand, the episode itself was pretty um, special...O_o

Sooo the episode started out okay, I LOVED all the flashbacks to Little!Amy/Rory and such, I mean I've been wanting Amy and her life and how she met Rory to be fleshed out since the premiere of season 5! Amy/Rory backstory, come to meeee....And this was all beautiful and adorable and amazing, Little!Amelia was always my fave anyway, so great to see her again, and omg Little!Rory was too dorky and cute I wanted to hug him then and there! <3333 And oh Amy, thinking poor Rory was gay, gah, nice to see these moments...although I have to say I liked it a bit less after the revelation that their sudden, never-before-mentioned "BFF" Mels (who I totally wondered about given the name) was actually intervening from the future to make them get together, this has to be my least favorite plot device ever! *sigh* *rolleyes* It's why I don't like ships like River/Doctor or Simon/Alisha, and why I don't like the Cupid thing in SN 5x14 regarding John/Mary...but yeah, I'll ignore that and just focus on the flashbacks I think!

It all went downhill from there though...and in the end it made even less sense than the last premiere! :/ I mean, really Moffat? And people don't give me that bullshit about "ohhh well if you don't get his plots it just means you're not ~clever~ enough or whatever--the reason I don't get his plots, like this one, is because they DON'T ACTUALLY MAKE ANY SENSE, he just throws in random crap and then shiny distractions to make it look more like his plots hold together, but really they don't, you're basically expected to just pretend they all make sense. In short, I think I've just about given up on Moffat's ability to make any sense with his arcs.../sigh I'm not even going to try to muddle through the mess of this episode and the River Song "revelations" here...(though ugh, her and her gun fixation, Ten would be facepalming forever at her, especially in this epp). The one time I liked...River, or whoever she was in this epp...was her line to the Nazis about going to a gypsy bat mitzvah for the disabled or whatever, etc, that was one of the only funny/notable lines of the night. Though also I guess we should be happy that they didn't actually really do much with Hitler in the end, just Moffat trolling viewers! *rolleyes*

The whole Robot Ship thing made me LOL too, it's like that stupid Eddie Murphy movie...also talk about a missed opportunity with the ship, when they first were looking at the TARDIS and like "omg now we have a real War Criminal!" I got all excited for a minute and thought they'd address the Doctor's involvement in the Time War and how he was responsible for the mass genocide of nearly two races, and go in dark, interesting places, kind of like how they touched on in "The Doctor's Wife" with the line, "Fear me, I've killed them all"...but no, they just talk about RIVER being one, just for killing the Doctor? :s I mean, really? Oh well...

But to go back to talking about more positive things, yay for the shout outs to the old companions, actually SEEING them and you know, acknowledging they existed! <333 I was scared for a moment when someone said it'd just be photographs, but this was more than that....THE TARDIS THOUGHT THE DOCTOR WOULD WANT TO SEE ROSE ONE MORE TIME AS HE DIED, SHE REMEMBERED THE LAST TIME! ;)

The TARDIS totally ships it...HE ASKED, "GIVE ME SOMEONE I LIKE" AND ROSE WAS THE FIRST ONE THE TARDIS GAVE HIM!!! :DDD And of course it was great to see Martha and Donna as well, though OMG, Eleven's reaction to all of them! ;_; Definitely interesting, I mean, I love seeing Guilty!Angsty!Eleven (we don't get enough of that), though I would have liked him to be a little happier at seeing Rose and co. perhaps...though still, it's notable I think that the TARDIS thought he'd want to see his old companions as Ten, rather than say Amy or Rory immediately. And I guess he should feel some guilt about Rose, in terms of missed opportunities and just leaving her there again in the alt!verse where she didn't want to go back to...gah. And of course he should definitely feel guilty about Martha and Donna...But yeah, ROSE and Martha and Donna were back on the TARDIS and in a scene with Eleven, sort of, so awesome! :) I hope some great fanvids come out of this, lol...

Oh and Amy/Rory were also fabulous outside of the flashbacks, and Eleven's new longer coat is SUPER sexy and hawt, and I approve of the change VERY much! ;) What can I say, I have a thing for the long coats...:p Next week's epp looks really boring though, IDK I'm like "what, creepy dolls, meh." But who knows...

What did you all think?

EDIT: Sorry if the post looks messed up, IDK why LJ keeps fucking up the html by automatically clicking "disable auto-formatting" for you whenever you try to edit, I mean WTF, why do they even have that, who would ever want to use it and undermine all their hmtl?! >:(
