Last weekend I had no time to watch any of my shows, and I just caught up with SN and Merlin today, and had a few thoughts....
SN 6x09:
I REALLY enjoyed it! The X-Files opening credits were fun, there was lots of good humor and funny character moments, and even some old music! (Loved the David Bowie song--I miss regularly having old music like that on the show). Dean and Sam's respective facial expressions throughout this episode and delivery of lines were priceless! :p I have to say, I do kind of love uber!snarky!Soulless!Sam, though I would like to see his soul back soon of course--but I'm enjoying him in the meantime anyway...;)
Some favorite lines:
"Did you ever consider the fact that you suck at hunting a UFO?" (Plus Sam's whole matter-of-fact "yeah, I believe in them, now how do you kill them?" attitude and the "I've already had time to cope" "Did it happen when you were children?" "No about 30 minutes ago" exchange, lol)
In short, I'd say it's one of my favorites of the season....season 6 continues to be pretty good, IMO! Next week looks intense though, as always with episode 10...
Merlin 3x11:
Yeah, IDGAF about the Great Retcon, the writers are still not writing them as father/daughter, so I'm not going to see them that way--Uther and Morgana were TOTALLY flirting in the dinner scene, and when he walks into the room at the end with her on his arm....unngf. I love the parallel with 1x02 here--once again, the winner of the tournament gets to escort the Lady Morgana to the feast! ;) Then it was my fave ship Arthur/Morgana, now it's my new OTP Uther/Morgana, lol. And I love that he basically did all that to impress her...
Also I did like that at least Merlin was noticing how stupid and absurd the whole tournament was (although maybe the writers could come up with something better if they can see how dumb and unlikely their idea is?), and the story of the competitor in the end was different and more sympathetic than with Valiant. It annoyed me though the way he was revealing his secret to the kid and being all, "Gauis you showed me the way, now I must show him!" when um, hello, you could have done all this with MORGANA? Remember? *rolleyes* Oh well...
The Uther/Arthur stuff was interesting, loved seeing Uther in armor again, unf, and it was funny seeing more banter between them, and more relationship development there, though I think Uther was being a little aggressive there with Arthur, lol.
In short, I did enjoy the humor and the Uther/Morgana sexiness in this epp, though other parts were boring...
Merlin 3x12:
I hate what they did to Morgana....it's so lame and disappointing and stupid...:( BUT aside from that, and the abrupt and sad end to the Morgause/Cenred sexiness, I actually rather enjoyed this episode...lol, this show, just when I think I'm ready to quit it keeps trying to pull me back! The story was pretty exciting and epic, Morgause was badass and beautiful as always, there was some really good, almost classic/old school Arthur/Merlin banter and moments, we got some druids talking mentally to Merlin, the writers actually remembered all the way back to 1x13 (although still discontinuity too, as usual, since nobody was dropping dead in exchange for Sir Leon's life, lol...plus we never saw the cup getting destroyed, IDK where Merlin got that from), GWAINE was there and total love as always ("If I die collecting firewood, keep it to yourself! I have my reputation to consider...")--can he be a regular next year?--there was more (final) Uther/Morgana shippiness (once again, that scene where they're standing together, hands clasped together, smiling at one another....yeah, not father/daughter vibe there! :p They have so much chemistry, I can't even...*sigh*), and most amazing of all, the status quo seems to have been shaken up for good! O_o There's no way they can bring Morgana back now, after this...god, I don't even want to know what happens to her! :( I fear that she's not going to be in season 4 much, since they don't seem to be able to show villainesses much if they aren't inside Camelot or connected to someone in Camelot (as Morgause was this season).
Poor Uther and Arthur (but especially Uther since he clearly loves her more), their faces when they realized Morgana's betrayal....:( Uther's heart must be breaking, I hope the tears we see in the teaser for next week are over Morgana and this situation...his sekrit lovah the woman he cares for most in the world has utterly stabbed him in the back! This makes two 12th episodes in a row where Uther has found his heart breaking over her. For all the retconning about father/daughterness I feel like THIS is the real end of the ship, or of any friendly interactions (which I will miss, since I do love their hugs and smiles and such, even if they were faked on Morgana's part this season--no more nice footage like that for fanvids!)--now the truly angsty love/hate phase can begin, a la Merlin/Morgana this season....I hope they do see each other from time to time, even with Morgana out of Camelot now. *sigh* Oh why did they have to make Morgana so unsympathetic in the way she's turning against Camelot? :(
Anyway, next week looks pretty epic as well, or even more so, and I am really curious as to where it will all lead, and how it will get resolved, given how deep the shit is right now, with that Immortal army. It is nice to finally get a finale that's a two-parter where they were able to build up more of an epic storyline. As much as I've disliked this season on the whole, it is nice that they finally have two-parters, and ones that make sense (not say for Troll one-off epps!). I wonder if Morgause is going to survive the epp...if she doesn't, maybe then Morgana will be able to become more of a badass sorceress in her own right? And I'm curious about Morgana's fate, and everyone else's--it looks like they're finally going to shake up things a bit, and bring more of the legend in. And Lancelot is coming back again? I guess he hasn't made his once-a-year cameo yet....(speaking of cameos, how random was Eliah's appearance, lol?). I'm so glad they were able to have Gwaine come round more often this season.
Lol, before this epp I was thinking of how relieved I was that there were only a few more epps of Merlin this season, so that I wouldn't have to deal with it for much longer until perhaps next year (or ever since I only promised myself to watch through the end of season 3)...but now maybe I will miss it! IDK, we'll see what happens next weekend....which IDK when I'll be watching since I'll be traveling that weekend!
I can't believe we're almost at hiatus season already....ah well, I'm kind of looking forward to it, I need a break to catch up with my shows like Bones and finish other stuff like Torchwood! Still also need to catch up on last week's GG...
