Caught up on Doctor Who...

About a week ago today I caught up with Doctor Who (it took me about 2 months or so in all), and I've been meaning to post here since about my thoughts on the specials and season 5...

The Specials:

Tell you what...I bet you're going to have a really great year! )

I was surprised to see that you didn't like TEoT very much LoL After I finished watching them I posted on my journal that they were my two favorite episodes of the whole series, so we're on COMPLETELY different ends of the spectrum LOL I *hated* "The Next Doctor", so boring IMO. But, the guy who was playing "The Doctor" in that episode, David Morrissey, was in "Blackpool" with David back in 2005 (I think it was 2005), so it was nice to see them interacting again LoL

That D/R scene at the end of TEoT will always be my favorite D/R scene, and I have a lot of them. I'm just a big fan of things coming full circle, and knowing now that The Doctor saw Rose before he even met her in "Rose" is nice to think about.

I found it really boring and I felt like it ruined the WA mythology with all the retcons about looking them in the eyes, and the image thing, and them suddenly snapping necks instead of being "the only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely"

I hated that, too. I just watched "Blink" with my mom yesterday and seeing them in that episode, compared to the S5 episodes, kind of ruined it for me, knowing that they were snapping people's necks in later episodes, and because in "Blink", people looked into the eyes of the statues and nothing happened, yet in S5, the people who did the same thing became the creatures themselves. I think the writers really messed up there.

And I'm just not feeling the Doctor/River Song thing...I found her okay in season 4, then really smug and annoying in the Weeping Angel two-parter

That's exactly why I don't like her. She just seems really...arrogant about everything, like she's the best companion he's ever had and that she's the only one who knew what she was doing. There's a real "holier-than-thou" attitude about her and I hate it.

Jack could totally come back in S6 if they really wanted him to. After seeing the last episode of Torchwood, it's possible, but I think Moffat wants nothing to do with people from RTD's era. The only reason River is still around is because she's Moffat's creation.

I'm curious about S6. I want to know what this "huge midseason cliffhanger" is that Moffat was talking about. I hope Amy and Rory stick around (only because I love Rory...I wouldn't mind if Amy left LOL), but IDK. I have a feeling River is going to be a huge part of S6, which I'm dreading. I haven't had a desire to re-watch any of S5 unlike my desire to re-watch the other 4 seasons LOL I just didn't love it as much. Maybe if I was someone who had seen S5 before I saw the others, I might like it more.

Heh, oh well! At least we agree on so much else...;) But yeah, the first part just didn't work for me...I didn't like the weird new skeleton!superman!Master, all that was so WTF for me, as was EVERYONE becoming him on the planet...:s Also the thing with Elizabeth I will never get, I just don't see the Doctor as that sexual a being, I mean, at least not anymore. Or if he does have sex with humans, you think something would have happened with, you know...

The second part I did enjoy more, I liked seeing the Time Lords, I loved the explanation for the sounds of the drums in the Master's head, I liked what kills Ten in the end, and of course I love the goodbye scenes at the end...I don't think I'd say it's my favorite of the series though still...I'm not quite sure what my absolute favorites episodes are, actually! Hard to say...

And that reminds me, I guess I can freely look through your journal at the DW posts without fear of spoilers now! :D

That D/R scene at the end of TEoT will always be my favorite D/R scene, and I have a lot of them. I'm just a big fan of things coming full circle, and knowing now that The Doctor saw Rose before he even met her in "Rose" is nice to think about.

Yeah, it is nice and neat and perfect that way....also Moffat check it out the first time Rose sees the Doctor is the last time he sees her, River isn't the only one who can do weird bendy time things like that! IDK if it's my favorite D/R scene (I mean, so many moments! And I think mine might be the scenes at the end of "Doomsday" that are so angsty and beautiful at the same time...or the 9/Rose "you need a Doctor" kiss), but it's definitely up there, so short but sweet, all that poignancy in less than two minutes. *sigh* Definitely a proper send-off.

Jack could totally come back in S6 if they really wanted him to. After seeing the last episode of Torchwood, it's possible, but I think Moffat wants nothing to do with people from RTD's era. The only reason River is still around is because she's Moffat's creation.

Well that's what I'm saying, technically Jack is also Moffat's creation (he was introduced in Moffat's first DW epps, The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances), even if RTD kind of made Jack his own later in the seasons and with Torchwood (though DW!Jack >>> Torchwood!Jack...it's annoying how they made Jack into this broody Angel-type figure. It's like the opposite of with BTVS, where Angel became less broody/annoying on his own spinoff show!).

I'm curious about S6. I want to know what this "huge midseason cliffhanger" is that Moffat was talking about. I hope Amy and Rory stick around (only because I love Rory...I wouldn't mind if Amy left LOL), but IDK.

Lol! Yeah, I'd definitely say Rory > Amy, although I like her alright now...the cliffhanger better not involve harm to Rory again!

God I hope not...though maybe that's the mid-season cliffhanger, what her big secret is? And then she'll go away once the Doctor knows as she said had to happen? But yeah, Aside perhaps from "The Lodger" I don't have any particular urge to rewatch season 5 yet either (though maybe it'd all make more sense now), at least in comparison to how I want to marathon rewatch seasons 1-4! (Even though I *just* watched them all for the first time). And I think many of the more avid lovers of season 5 like it so much in part because they did not care much for David Tennant's acting as the Doctor, *le gasp*...
