Well I finally watched the much anticipated and long-awaited Bones 100th episode.....it was not quite what I expected....:s
Honestly? I don't know what to think.....but I didn't totally love it, that's for sure! :( I mean, I loved seeing a real kiss between them (in the flashback I mean), that was hot, but I just don't buy that that could have happened between them at the beginning of their relationship, not when all this time they've acted like they could never think of themselves in sexual terms (or especially Brennan), etc, it just doesn't fit with everything we've seen since. So BIG retcon there, one that doesn't really work, IMO.
Then there was the end....*sigh* It was so exciting, the moment I've been waiting 4 years for (since I started watching live with the beginning of season 2), and well, it didn't quite go the way I expected it too! I also wish Booth had fought harder, argued more, told her that she didn't need to change in order to be in a relationship with him, pointed out that they were all but in a romantic relationship anyway! It broke my heart, to see Booth lose the gamble, to hear him say he's going to move on--ugh, no! :( I guess they just had to throw in that obstacle....though at least it's something to have Brennan pretty much admitting at last that she has those kinds of feelings for him as well! I sure hope they can work it out....I will always love B/B, even if I don't feel as enthusiastic about them as I once did!
I did find
this really nice B/B fanvid made after the 100th episode though, for those shippers on my flist! :) It makes me feel a little better about them in the episode, kind of summing things up....
Overall I enjoyed the flashback, seeing Zack again and such, and Brennan's season 1 hair, a nice blast from the past! But I was a little nonplussed by Hodgin's attitude, for one thing--I mean I know he sometimes acts very angry, especially in seasons 4 and 5, but really? He's always seemed on the show like a pretty outgoing guy, sociable, so I didn't like this retcon either (and was his hair really that long?!). I also was a little unsure about the Angela bits as well, the way she and Brennan acted in season 1 seemed to be more than just friends of one year! It didn't seem to fit either....I did like Hodgins being so excited to work with Angela though, oh Hodgela! *sigh* Also Booth using the word "squint" to Brennan in the first case is a mistake, because in the Pilot she asks him what that means, as if hearing it for the first time then!
I did like seeing Caroline again, and that Cam was the first to tell Booth about the Jeffersonian (I was wondering how he first would have been paired up with them!), and that Brennan was the one to first get Booth to start wearing his funny socks and "Cocky" belt buckle, that she had already had such an influence on him before the show even began, giving him one of his defining characteristics! I also did love the beginning of the flashback, the way it was structured, the whole "Do you believe in fate?" exchange that cut back to the present--awww! :)
So while I appreciated the trip to the past, I did not think all of the flashback worked within the framework of the show we have watched for 5 seasons now--it felt like at times they were trying to force a square peg into a round hole, if you catch my drift. I also thought the case itself was a little boring, to be honest. I don't think this episode ranks all that highly at all among the best Bones epps--I love and enjoyed most of season 2 and many season 3 and 4 epps much more than this one. There was some season 1 feel (right down to them spending way too long on B/B watching videos of the victim, lol, something I did *not* miss about season 1!), but I guess season 1 and 2 episodes are invariably going to be better than the mere attempt to reconstruct one!
However, it was still momentous and special for giving me two things I've been waiting 4 years for: the story of their first case (which I've always wondered about), and Booth admitting his feelings to Brennan at last and trying to start a romantic relationship with her (at last!), and her all but admitting her feelings for him! So there is that, at least....
Was I the only one who had these issues with the retcons and such? :s What did you all think?
I sure hope the Supernatural 100th Episode next week doesn't leave me disappointed in the same way! (Though at least from the promos and clips I've seen already, I don't think this will be the case!)
