Being Human, Season 2

Well Being Human finally came back last week.....what did you all think of the second episode of the new season?  BH 2x02 spoilers below, obviously....

Personally I enjoyed it a lot more than I did last week's epp, and not just because it was more Mitchell-centric rather than George-centric (Mitchell being my favorite character, and well you know how I feel about George! ;)). I just felt that it was more exciting overall, between Mitchell dealing with his murdering vampire friend, finding out that the coroner won't cover for the vampires anymore (I love the secret vampire society and politics), Ivan returning and continuing to be intriguing (though also a drama queen, lol), the bad guys listening in on the flat (though could that bug be more out in the open and obvious?!), the mysterious men with sticks returning and communicating, trying to get Annie through the door by FORCE, Nina leaving, Annie becoming invisible again at the end....lots of intrigue and action overall!

I also LOVED the flashback at the beginning with Mitchell, I wish they'd have more flashbacks on the show...Also Ivan was lots of fun, I loved his car, and when he was giving the rules of the car to Carl and whipping out his cassette tape it reminded me of this: xD

I'm glad George wasn't as much of a dick this episode as last week, although I was a little irritated with him when he was chewing out Mitchell about Carl--it's like oh I see how it works George, when the others were trying to get Tully kicked out it was YOUR house too, so you got to decide, but when Mitchell is trying to help a friend for a much shorter period of time it's "not just HIS house"? Very nice double standard there! *rolleyes* I hate though that Mitchell seemed to be taking over some of his dickishness from last episode this time around, although I understood his motives to be snappy better....still though, I hated that scene with Annie, more on that below....

I do think Carl presents an interesting dilemma though, because I can see why Mitchell felt obliged to help him, and pitied him--Carl certainly seemed heartbroken over it, I can see how he might slip one day, and Dan did love him.....

But IMO this whole episode affirms why Mitch/Annie is the only solution of happiness for them both, and why it needs to happen someday--because the episode emphasizes that Mitch will always endanger any human woman he has a relationship with, no matter how careful he is--not only in the disquieting example of Carl, but also in the nice little detail in the scene when Mitch and Lucy are sitting outside on that bench, which had a plaque on it in memory to LAUREN--the last human woman Mitchell had a relationship with and ended up killing. Annie, being a ghost, can't have her blood drunk by Mitchell, she's the only one who wouldn't be in that kind of danger from him. On the other hand Annie meanwhile continues to have awful taste in men (whereas Mitch is a good guy!), and also as we see now will always be in danger of turning invisible again to the human eye, while she would never be invisible to Mitch--plus with Mitch she would never have to worry about accidentally disappearing or being squishy, etc, and giving her ghostliness away....

Though speaking more specifically about Mitch/Annie in this episode, I'm still not happy at the lack of quality Mitchell/Annie interaction like that which occurred in season one--for instance I was expecting him to comfort her about Saul, since he has ALWAYS been understanding and kind to her and protective of her (while George has usually been the rude one who doesn't have the time or patience for Annie and her issues), but instead he had a very cold and total "ME ME ME" George-style freak-out, which made me angry and sad! >:( They seemed to be switching George and Mitchell's roles this episode, with George being the one to comfort her and rescue her and stuff....ugh! I keep hoping for good M/A interaction like last season and then instead we get quality George-Annie one-on-one! I know the BBC isn't going to explore a Mitch/Annie romance this series, but I sincerely hope that M/A get to have nice moments and still have their close, kind and caring bond of last series this time around--I really hope this isn't going to turn into another Arthur/Morgana in Merlin series 2 situation where after a season of great interaction they never interact nicely again, even though they live in the same home! :( Mitchell was also waiting for Saul at the hospital when he arrived, alongside George, and yet for some reason the writers decided he couldn't be in the same room with Annie like George was....and he didn't even ask Annie if she was okay after Saul, which again brings back unwelcome flashbacks to Merlin 2x04...*sigh* So that's probably my biggest complaint about the episode, and the only part I didn't enjoy. I also want to still see more trio action, I feel like there still wasn't enough.

Oh, and I also found Kemp's discussion of "the three types" (ghost, vampire, werewolf) to be pretty intriguing, does this mean there are only those three creatures in the supernatural world of the show? I do wish that he wasn't a fundamentalist Christian though, I feel like that road has been done to death on True Blood and other shows...*rolleyes*

So yeah, it seems the show is getting more on its feet now, and I look forward to next week! :) Hope Nina is okay, and doesn't end up in that bloodbath machine! :(

It'll be interesting to see how this season goes with two extra episodes. Also I am *never* watching this on BBC America again, the commercial breaks every 5 minutes (with a short spoilery clip of what will come in the next segment each time!) drove me insane, and just detracts from the viewing experience so much...
