I'm so glad I managed to get to Charleston, despite the fact that I was exhausted from the week in Miami. I'm not a "social butterfly" and I don't spend a lot of time on the forums, other than the "what are you reading" threads in Book Talk, so I didn't have the well-established relationships (online or rl) that some people did, but that was OK. People were friendly and welcoming, regardless.
It was wonderful to get to meet jessibud in person finally, after sharing emails, books and other little bits and pieces for the past couple of years. Lynne (hotflash) was also wonderful to meet. Though we've never interacted much online, she was so easy to get to know that I was almost instantly comfortable with her. The 3 of us had a great time at Magnolia Plantation on Saturday afternoon (some photos

I didn't partake in the "night life"; I was just too tired from the NSM all the previous week, so I feel like I may have missed out on a chance to get to know some people better, but I just didn't have the energy. Really, I'd likely have been no fun anyway, since I was running low on energy.
The convention organizers did a great job; hats off to all of them. The speakers were great, the updates on where BC is going were informative, and the atmosphere was very positive. It was great to meet Scott (the new CEO) and Matt (programmer extraordinaire), and especially to spend some time talking with them over lunch one day. They really set my mind at ease about where BC is going and how responsive they will be to current users.
When things wrapped up, I was ready to go home. A week and a half away from Jack is too long! Would I do it again? Absolutely, though I don't know how practical London or Christchurch will be for me.
