I had stacks of other books waiting to be read, but this book kept calling to me from the time I opened the envelope. What a powerful story. Gilda isn't a brilliant writer, but her memoir is incredibly real and powerful. She reveals her hopes and dreams, her fears and worries, her secrets and the person behind the face on the screen. I grew up watching SNL and just caught the tail end of Gilda's years on the show. Those were the best years, and she was incredible. To see beyond the entertainer, into the rest of the courageous and remarkably real woman was a treat.
Gilda's story had a sad ending, but it was inspiring and I couldn't help but smile at the joy she was able to find for so much of her short life. Gilda is the poster child for *living* life.
