During the stress of a temporary relocation (moving sucks!) this book was just what I needed - fun, exciting and didn't require much effort. It's always fun to visit Eve and Roarke and the crew. When I grow up I want to be Eve Dallas, with her hot, rich husband and amazing home, exciting life, wonderful friends, and all the conveniences of the mid-21st century.
J.D. Robb didn't disappoint with this installment in the "In Death" series. The plot was full of twists and turns, with lots of suspense to keep me guessing and tension right up to the very end. The murders at the center of the story were particularly awful. I had no problem sympathizing with the surviving child and cheering on the NYPSD in their hunt for the perpetrators.
The story focused on Eve and Roarke but didn't really bring in more of their relationship or histories. I missed seeing Mavis; she barely appeared in this book. Nixie was a wonderful character, and I *really* wanted her to end up with Eve and Roarke. The bad guys were particularly bad and their story required some suspension of disbelief, but it was effective regardless.
I'm looking forward to visiting this series again. Funny how I enjoy these books so much, but don't like the Nora Roberts books, though they're written by the same person.
