The Devil and Miss Prym by Paul Coelho

I received this book from Harper Collins First Look program. It's an Advanced Reader's Edition that they sent me to read and review.

I really enjoyed Coelho's writing. This is the first of his books that I've read and I'll definitely be looking for more. The style was very easy to read and the story moved quickly. The characters were interesting and well drawn. The plot was somewhat predictable, but done with a creative twist.

In a way of reminded me of the old short story The Lottery, where every year someone is stoned to death to ensure the harvest is successful; a town sacrificing one member for the benefit of the others.

I had some trouble at first with all the God/Devil references as I don't enjoy books with religious themes. However, this wasn't really a religious book at all, but rather a tale of good vs evil, and when I thought of it in those terms I was much more comfortable with the author's moral message.

Overall, I felt the story was well crafted and entertaining. I'll happily write a good review for Harper Collins.
