I really enjoyed this! The ending, with John not magically all better at the end, was realistic, but still managed to be optimistic with the fact that he and Sherlock continue to grow their relationship to support the changes, even with all the bumps in the road. Kudos :)
I simply adore an author who can deliver the comfort, equal to the amount of the hurt AND within the boundaries of the character's personalities. Good job with the relationship between John and Sherlock! THANK YOU for putting the hurt to John and resisting the pitfall of the insta-cure or unrealistic one. You STILL gave readers what they want: a hopeful, happy ending, but you kept it real.
I would have enjoyed just a bit more interaction between Mycroft and Sherlock in light of John having sacrificed so much to save Mycroft. You write very well and I think you would have written some interesting, emotionally revealing scenes for those two.
