BEING A UNION MEMBER IS SEEN AS ALMOST ESSENTIAL IN MY COUNTRY. YOUR UNION REP WOULD BE THE PERSON TO GO TO IF YOU WERE NOT GETTING PAID.
I DID NOT UNDERSTAND THAT UNIONS ARE THAT DIFFERENT IN AMERICA.

Gotta defend my union, yo. Everyone in my line of work wants *into* them. IDK how Hollywood would even operate without SAG or AFTRA. Food for thought, I suppose.
As to the original post, (if in the US), the state (or federal, idk which) government's department of labor. There are definitely options for non-union people to protest unfair treatment (including not being paid, or not being paid in a timely manner. Umm...unless it's an illegal biz, in which case this is of no help to you.

My main source of income is checks from the government which I receive because my father was in the military when he passed away. They haven't given these checks since DECEMBER because my university screwed up the paperwork they were supposed to send in to verify that I'm still a student. I'M FILLED WITH RAGE AND ANGST BECAUSE I CAN'T PAY FOR ANYTHING.
