He’d apparently gotten turned around somewhere because the elves had heard stories of a giant that was destroying houses and causing panic. The police elf Lestrade just finished explaining when another elf joined them. This elf was tall, even for an elf, and had dark hair. He sneered at the police elves and claimed that it was obvious that this was the giant they were looking for.
Even more obvious, the elf continued to say, was the fact that the giant was not deliberately ruining people’s homes. Why would someone destroy a home only to build a new one to replace it? Even more telling were the good deeds the giant had done shortly before destroying the property.
John thought the elf was brilliant to be able to tell all that by just looking at the villages and told him so. The elf blushed and introduced himself as Sherlock. He was not only an elf but also the only consulting detective in the world. He found traveling alone wearisome and thought Mike had done well to chose John as Sherlock’s travel companion.
John was amazed by how much Sherlock knew about him just from looking and happily accepted Sherlock’s proposal they travel together. Sherlock demanded that John put his hand on the ground so Sherlock could stand on it. He insisted that it was undignified to be shouting up at John all the time. He said it was much more reasonable for John to carry him around on his shoulder so they could converse like civilized beings.
Sherlock told John that he was currently in the process of solving a case-sailors in the West claimed that mermaids were stealing their wares. The elf pointed John in the right direction and they set off towards the sea.
