No real directions, but this isn't a place for debate. It's a place for RANTIN' AND RAVIN'.

There is a rule: There is to be no calling out anyone by name in Rants, Chatter, or on the Meme itself. This only produces an atmosphere of animosity and it is no longer tolerated. If you see any names being ranted about, please link ( Read more... )

You keep using that word, etc.. anonymous December 12 2011, 19:07:52 UTC
I'm fucking tired of people using 'it's so gay' to mean 'it sucks', and then when you call them on it they're all "But 'gay' didn't mean homosexual before, it meant 'happy'! It's just a word, it evolves! You're too touchy! *bullshitbullshitbullshitI'msayingsomuchbullshit*!"

FUCK. YOU.
First of all, yes I am very touchy. You want to know the truth? I'm even jealous. I'm incredibly jealous of straight people who can take their loved ones by the hand in the street without a care, when simply going out with my girlfriend fills me with fear.

Yes, I'm touchy, and I have every right to be. Deal with it.

Second of all : WHY DO YOU THINK THIS PRECISE WORD "EVOLVED" THE WAY IT DID, DICKHEAD?! WHY DO YOU THINK IT SUDDENLY MEANS "BAD"?? Do you really, sincerely believe that it's just one of those amusing little quirks of the English language, just like "ejaculate" meant "exclaim" before? Really?

This word evolved the way it did because people associate gay with bad all the fucking time, and they want to make the message very clear.
That's the one and only reason why it's like that today. This is not a natural evolution of the word. This is an actual act of homophobia.

Now fuck you.

Also, Mycroft is saying "Avant-propos" and I like that.

Thank you.
Someone needed to rant and rave over this. I hear it in the hallways and don't feel that I can say anything because it means admitting that I've eavesdropped on others' conversations and because I hate talking to strange people (no one with whom I talk normally would ever consider using that word derogatively).

But I hear it anyway, and every time I die a little more inside.

You have the support of one more person, anon.

Whenever my kids use 'gay' in a negative way I call them on it. Here's hoping for an improved next generation!

I'd call others on it too, but no one else I know does that, thank goodness.

I ranted about this just a few weeks ago. As someone who is inclined to date people of the same gender, I fully agree with you.

And people are idiots. They don't see it as derogatory or rude or like a bad thing at all.

I can't tell you how many times I've had the following conversation:

"friend": That's so gay!

Me: Um, actually, I would really appreciate it if you could choose a different word to describe that. It's a bit offensive to use "gay" that way.

"friend": Hahaha. No, I know gay people. They don't mind. Besides, what am I supposed to call them then if I can't use the word "gay".

Me: *facepalm*

Seriously, people are purposely obtuse and I hate them.

Personally, I constantly wished my teachers would stop calling students out on using it in high school, because it's just a bloody word with a variety of meaning that barely link together in the mind of an average prat.

Then again, I was so damn traumatised by society by the time I came out that I couldn't bring myself to give a shit about anything less than a pipe to the skull.

I get very annoyed by this, but it's pretty much fallen out of use where I live. All my year realised how tasteless and offensive it is.

Although, the other day I was fangirlin' with my friend about season 2, and someone asked 'Oh, you laughing about that gay program you like?' and that just sent us off into more giggles. xD

You know what pisses me off most, anon? When I call people out on it, and they're all "but we didn't actually mean it in a bad way. Like we don't actually mean gay people" and I'm like "you just called the fact that your mate's boyfriend cheated on her 'gay'. Now, unless he ran off with a man, YOU ARE ATTACHING A NEGATIVE CONNOTATION TO SOMEONE'S SEXUALITY."
