It is NOT unreasonable, spoiling people's fun and creativity nor "Imperialist" to expect (and where appropriate, ask politely and preferably privately: rudeness is just rudeness whatever the subject and deserves no quarter) writers in a British fandom to understand that many things in England/Scotland/Ireland/Wales/Isle of Man are/may be not at all like the corresponding things in the States/Australia/Europe/other continent and to make at least a good effort to reproduce that reality in fanworks.

Respect for the original material. Beta readers. Neither are that hard to find.

Applies in the other direction, naturally, but that's not relevant here, or maybe yet (Irene Adler was originally from New Jersey, maybe that's where they'll take it, we shall see).
