In the books John gets married and moves out of 221B, but his wife is oh so understanding about Holmes coming over at the oddest hours or stealing away her husband for sometimes even days or weeks on end. I also seem to remember that Holmes stayed over at their place sometimes, though I'm not sure how often that did happen.
In the 21st century the type of wife that just nods of her husband's adventures with his eccentric ex-flatmate has become quite rare.
So, a few years in the future John is married to (and living with) someone who has known Sherlock even longer than him and just sends John along on those adventures and bears with Sherlock's random appearances. Either Mycroft (who can't be bothered to follow his little brother but is quite aware of the mutually soothing effect John and Sherlock have on each other) or Lestrade (who's working with the police, thank you very much, and has enough cases of his own to go spend his free time with that kind of stuff, too) would be lovely!

ooooooooooh! This is probably the first "Who is Mary?" idea that I actually do approve of. And wouldn't it be fun if they could complain about their respective Holmes over dinner? XD
An old school friend of john's dies of an illness, and john is devastated because he hadn't even realised she was sick. he's invited to the funeral, and takes sherlock along for moral support. sherlock is completely comforting without having to pretend, because it's john and sherlock cares that john's hurting.

John makes Sherlock come so hard he screams... which shocks them both, (and greatly amuses John), as Sherlock is usually silent during sex.
John decides to experiment, with interesting results.
