RF AU:

Sherlock fell straight to the ground, but he didn't die. And John didn't get knocked over by the bicycle. He made it to Sherlock, and was the first doctor on site.

So basically, John being Sherlock's doctor and helping him through a long recovery. H/C

This is my first fic. Also I'm American so I might have put in Americanisms. And I know this doesn't focus on the recovery so much as on the Fall itself--but I really like this idea so much better than what seems to be the canon so I wrote this one. Hope you enjoy nonetheless, OP

Molly was waiting, half crazy with the tension as she watched John wheel the white-draped body into the mortuary. “Is he alright? Did he survive? He told me he was certain he'd survive but he wasn't sure he'd be able to walk after, and I don't know how he could even say that because I've never seen anyone survive a fall like that and I've seen a lot of fall victims, and they didn't look anywhere near surviving much less ever walking again, and I just can't bear to think of Sherlock being paralyzed, it's just agonizing, but he said there wasn't any other way-did he make it? Is he alright?” Even though she was talking at a dizzying rate and clearly so worried she could hardly keep from crying, she found all the anaesthetics and tools needed to prepare Sherlock for the trip back to Baker Street and handed them to John as they were necessary

I know this has already been filled, but the prompt really got me thinking...anyway, this is more about Sherlock's (slow) recovery, not about the events right after the fall

They move back into 221 B five days later. John is not surprised to find Mycroft planted calmly in the middle of the flat when they arrive, as if it were his home they were returning to and not their own. John nods a curt hello, most of his attention focused on guiding Sherlock unsteadily into the sitting room

There’s a rhythm to their days now that they never had before. John’s honestly surprised to find that this doesn’t bother him at all. He keeps his cane by his bed within easy reach, half expecting to wake up one morning crippled by the monotony of it all. Yet, the days come and go, and inexplicably he’s fine. He stopped posting updates on his blog long ago, but now he starts writing again in regular Word documents that no one else will see. The content doesn’t actually change that much
