So no, this was not the time to explore this delightful new discovery, not the time to put into play any fantasies John had previously had to dismiss as impossible -like having a freshly spanked Sherlock bent over the table in kitchen while John fingers him till he’s desperate- , there would be time for that later when Sherlock is well and back to his usual querulous self.
Right now though, he needs to get a look at Sherlock shoulder and get it patched up, and then get Sherlock home so he could sleep off his post case crash. With any luck, John could even get Sherlock tucked away in bed before he decided to sleep so John won’t be stuck lugging him up the stairs again.
John tugged on Sherlock’s hair a little and pushed him into a more upright position before going over to close the door to the office, giving Sherlock and him a bit of privacy. Sherlock’s shirt needs to come off so John could examine the shoulder properly, and the last thing John wants is for someone else to enter to room while Sherlock is feeling vulnerable. Not only would that likely provoke Sherlock into behaving irrationally, but the possibility of someone other than John getting to see Sherlock when he’s like this makes him want to growl.
John moving away and closing the door seems to have woken Sherlock up a bit, because while he’s still kneeling, Sherlock’s now looking at John with an expression of mingled incredulity and confusion.
Huh. So evidently this little discovery is evidently as new to Sherlock as it is to John. And the influx of emotion must be helping bring Sherlock out of his sub space because Sherlock’s now trying to stand back up and John can see Sherlock trying to build up some sort of resistance by the play of emotion on his face.
Sherlock coming all the way back to himself will only likely lead to Sherlock mulishly fighting against John’s attempt at patching Sherlock up and getting him home, and will likely end up with Sherlock passing out from exhaustion before they can even leave the building. John’s near running on empty himself and lugging an unconscious Sherlock halfway across London is not the way John wants to end his day. Sherlock seemed to respond so well to his voice and a bit of dominant touching, and as John is not above using that knowledge to get them both home before they both reach the end of their endurance…
All this goes through his head in less than a second, and John is back by Sherlock side before he can fully get to his feet again. This time John goes for the back of Sherlock’s neck instead of his wrist, putting just a bit of pressure behind his hold, and snaps out “Back on your knees!” at Sherlock. John isn’t surprised this time when Sherlock drops back down to his knees like a rock.
With Sherlock back to his knees John can get a proper look at the area of the shoulder that’s injured without standing on a chair, John dials down the dominance -Wants Sherlock cooperative but not back at the level he’d been at before, he needs Sherlock talking and coherent while John examines him-, and rests one hand on Sherlock head. He lets his fingers card through Sherlock’s hair and rub his scalp while he carefully examines the injured shoulder through the shirt in order.
