This was truly an outstanding, amazing story.

The original was pretty horrifying in the relationship between mother and her sons (and the apathy/absence of their father), but you took those dynamics and really explored them in this remix. I found myself riveted by the descriptions of the life that you have Violet leading and her background, and disgusted by who she becomes as she ages. The narrative is really gripping, even as she emerges as an arrogant, intelligent, and ruthless character. I found myself at times pitying and hating her, but I love that you never compromise on her at all. Even her love for Sherlock is tainted by her own selfishness and jealousy, and I couldn't help but feel that her disdain for Mycroft really seemed to emerge from her own lonely childhood and that she hated in him that which she hated in herself.

This was truly a fascinating glimpse into a complex character and story and I'm just blown away by how compelling it was!

(Also, I can't help but wonder what her reaction would be to learning about Sherlock's friendship with John. That would be just the sort of thing that would come to light and completely upend all of her manipulation).

Thank you!

I already knew the original story so when you mods assigned me the author I was over the moon at the chance to remix Proxy, though it was daunting as well for I think Proxy is truly brilliant. Of course as it is told from Mycroft's POV Mummy is drawn as the Big Bad, because that's what we do when someone spurns our love. And Mycroft wanted to love her so very, very much I think and be loved by her in turn.

I'm so glad you say you wanted to pity her as well for I think she's to be pitied and your observation about her disdain for Mycroft emerging from her own lonely childhood hits the proverbial nail on the head.

Now if Mycroft really, really wanted to get his come-uppance for what she did to him and to Sherlock he would visit her and inform her about Sherlock and John's friendship. I can just see him waiting for the warden to close the door on Mummy who he's left sitting rigid with shock and the small quirk of his lips after he's bid the warden good day and is walking off down the corridor. Someone really should write that story.

Thank you for your wonderful comment.
