What a welcome home. My mom, dad, Anne, Mike, and I went to Knobels this afternoon, which was alot of fun. We rode the Phoinex, the Flume, the Carousel, the Bumper Cars, and I don't know what else.
I couldn't go to Rob's tonight because my uncle's 60th Birthday Party was tonight. The party was nice enough, and my one Aunt Donna and Uncle Mick (he's my mom's brother) gave me a book called Sewing for Dummies. My aunt told me with a sheepish grin that she didn't think I was a dummy, but thought I would enjoy the book, which I am very much. I'm already on Chapter 2- Selecting Fabric, Findings, and Interfacing. It's exceptionally interesting, and it's filled with useful information on just about everything. To be honest, I had debated buying it for about a month, but couldn't bear to spend that much money on myself.
On the other hand, the party was also really hard to get through. it was my Uncle Jay's birthday, the one with ALS. Already his disease is much worse. In the few weeks since I last saw him, he has lost all means of verbal communication save grunting and growling. He can't even get out the "Ey" of greeting that he did before. If he wanted to say something, he must write it on the dry erase board and bang the board against soemthing, which is really hard to take in. This is really tearing me apart now. He's not doing well at all and it's killing my whole family. Even though he's having such a rough time, he's trying not to show it. Tonight, he would summarize a story and hold up the board so that my other uncles would tell everyone the whole story, detail for detail. Then, his grandson Harrison (who's a year and a half old) would come up to him and I was struck with the thought that Harrison can't remember Uncle Jay's voice. Futhermore, Harrison will probably have to grow up without a grandfather, which is really tough at times. I speak from experience.
So that was my welcome home. I am glad to be back and am sorry that my post is so depressing. Anyhow, I hope to see you all soon. Now I'm watching a Sherlock Holmes movie to distract myself.
