Because I NEED to learn...

Learning is essential to the human experience as far as I am concerned. Learning provides mental and sometimes even spiritual stimulation. I have enjoyed every class I've taken online so far (Administration of Justice, Analytical Reading and Gays and Lesbians in literature). These are classes I would not have otherwise taken and I wanted to simply try something new and interesting (I am already considering my class for next semester, whether it be summer or fall of 2009 - History of Architecture). I just find the whole concept of trying new things, exploring new worlds, so to speak, exciting and invigorating. And after the horrors, disappointments and, yes, exciting achievements of 2008, it is nice to get back on track. I am hoping this inspires me to get back into writing...something I haven't done at pretty much any level since my father died.

So, it is with this excitement that I am now enrolled in a class called Women in Literature. Here is my reading list: Rubyfruit Jungle by Ruby Mae Brown, So Far From God by Ana Castillo, Autobiography of My Mother by Jamaica Kincaid, Beloved, by Toni Morrison, The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan and Bread Givers, by Anzia Yezierska.

Of these, the only book I've read thus far is Beloved, many years ago. I am looking forward to revisiting it...and discovering these new authors, as well.

I am simply thrilled to finally get back into the "classroom" environment. I've missed it terribly these past six months.
