A few words about this one series I have a crush on.

Who-hoo I still speak fangirl. See: squee!

It's been a while since a tv-show/character/movie/band member has made me go incoherent. But I can't help it, Generation Kill (HBO, 2008) just nails it perfectly.

The series tells about US Marines and the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It describes closely how unprepared the attack was and at the same time portrays the soldiers of USA as well.. humans as they are. It really gave me a new perspective to the whole subject. Great job, guys!

Why is it so damn good?

1)It must he the way the marines sing all sorts of pop/rap-tunes all
along the episodes. They're not doing the classics but Wheatus, 50cent, you name it.
I think my heart was broken when they started to sing Teenage Dirtbag.. ah. Great moments.

2) Another thing is the dialog. At the first episode the soldiers are wondering whether J.Lo's dead or not.

- Lieutenant, have you gotten any word?
- I only get what's passed down to me from Godfather and the only word he gets is from the BBC.
If we're lucky, Saddam will back down, let the inspectors in and we can go home.
The important thing is, we are doing our jobs by being here. All of you should be proud.
- Sir, that's not the word I was asking about. We wanted to know if you knew anything about J. Lo being killed.
- Ray, the Battalion Commander offered no sit-rep as to J. Lo's status.

3) Well ok ok I admit that the men in the series are very pleasing to the eye.
My favorite is lt. Fick at the first picture above.
Also here's a flirt sample from Fick's actor Stark Sands:

But it's not all about the looks, I swear! (Adorable, ne?)

The characters are all different and it's really interesting to watch how they react on
different situations. Sadly all the characters are male. I could start preaching about female
soldiers and marines in Iraq and Afghanistan but I won't because ultimately this series is
based on a book which is written by reporter who himself went to experience the invasion.
So let's just think the way there weren't any females in the troops he came across.

4) The series is damn believable. Scary, from time to time very disturbing but believable.

And yes, they're easy to pair.:D

Enough with that... I just had to share.:)

Last exam tomorrow and then Christmas holiday! Gosh. I mean.. wow. Another semester survived and it wasn't even that terrible. Actually it was very pleasant because it seems that all the essays and group works I've had have improved my writing a lot which is great.

So yes, going home and staying there for a few weeks. I'm going to play so much Wow my eyes drop out. Ah, I'm such a nerd.^^
