How do you read noncon and consent issues in fic?

I'm currently researching the complex ways in which writers and readers talk about rape and issues of consent in non-commercial (not for money) fiction online.  This includes fan fiction (all the way from drabbles to epics) as well as 'original' fiction published on sites like AO3, fictionpress or LJ.

I don't read it if there is a warning, but what annoys me is to begin to read a story, and I can think
of two in particular which still bother me, and then there it is...........
It ruined the story for me, which in both cases looked interesting.
Both were in Stargate Atlantis...........both featured LTCOL Sheppard.......one featured Sheppard and
MAJOR Lorne and the other Sheppard gang raped in a bachelor officers' quarters and what also bothered me
was she had no clue that NCOs and commissioned do not live in BOQ facilities (I am a former Navy officer so
know what a BOQ's function and who the residents are)
There should have been a warning in the intro in both cases........but there was not
When I wrote to the author, one blew me off, but the other then edited her piece adding
a warning.
I have no come across noncom and consent issues in other communities where I read also
They have all had warnings.

I've only read non-con (slash) if it's part of the plot. A necessary part. Integral. If it's just for the sake of violence, I don't finish reading it. I'm a serious reader and I USED to write fan fiction, but never wrote non-con. It's a hard thing to write and sometimes even harder to read.
