Welcome to coolest time of the year! I always look forward to this challenge every season.
The Fifth Annual Secret Santa Fic Exchange
Sign-ups will run from September 9th through September 16th. I'll send out prompts within 3-4 days after the sign ups close.
Please do not sign up for this challenge if you do not think you’ll have time to finish it since it is an exchange. We had too many stories last year that were very, very late. It is not fair to the other writers and I am going to be very strict about deadlines this year. I've started this exchange much earlier this season to you give you guys plenty of time to write.
Please try take advantage and start on these before the silly season begins. It is less stressful to have a completed, polished story sitting on your hard drive, than rushing at the last minute.
The RULES
(1) There is a minimum of 3,000 words and there is no maximum limit, although anything between 3 and 10k words has been the average.
(2) The due date is between December 21st and January 3rd. I will have a half way point check in time to see everyone's progress. I will have a final check-in time on Dec 12th. You will need to be more than half way done by this date. If you are not, I'll talk to people on a case by case bases to determine if you should hand it over to a pitch hitter.
(3) Posting. You can post your story anywhere you choose, but you will need to respond to the master list with three things. 1 - author name, 2- who the story is written for, and 3- the url to the story (please do not code the link, just c/p the url and I'll take care of it). I post the master list on the first day of the due date window.
(4) I highly encourage each author have a beta reader. I won't make it a requirement, but I feel if you’re writing this for someone else as a gift, then it should be checked out with a second set of eyes.
(5) Sign-up Requests
a) You will request the prompt you wish to be written for you. Please try to keep in mind that the person writing that response will write their concept so if there are any specific items you have in mind, list them. Say you want some serious hurt and a lot of comfort, but nothing permanent or death fic. The more information you give the author, the better they can tailor the prompt for you. With that said, however, this is a fic exchange and an author can only be true to themselves. They have a prompt and their talent and imagination fills in the blanks. At some point a prompt can become a story outline, so, yes, some detail is helpful, too much detail can be...too much detail.
b) As authors, you will given a prompt. I match writers up to the best of my ability with their interests in writing. Who will write slash or het, who will write gen, who will write anything and who won't, etc. But beyond that, you've got a prompt, do your best with it!
c) Specify what you will write and what you won't. You will write slash and gen, let me know! You don't mind writing dark or death fic, let me know! All this information helps me better match up authors and prompts.

I know, this is a lot of information. It's not that difficult of a thing, it really isn't, I'm just trying to mention as many things as I can here. All comments will be screened. You can also e-mail me with any questions, sometimes that is the easiest way to reach me. Those of you who have taken part previously, this will be old hat, the rules remain the same. Those of you who will be participating for the first time, welcome aboard! It's truly a lot of fun and a real treat, to have all these whumpalicious fics popping up during the holidays.
With all the red tape out of the way, now the fun part! Sign up by commenting to this post with the required information! All comments will be screened.
