Neku had begun to realize that he was not going to get answers just sitting at his cabin and talking to people through his crow. And of course getting information from Joshua had been about as successful as it had always been. He needed to walk around. Actually run into someone. That's probably what Shiki would have suggested anyway.

Damn! the thought, the memory of his first partner in the game was something of a troubling matter. If I'm here, then what's going to happen to her? Joshua's here, but he was never my entry fee!

He stared off over the surface of the lake feeling helpless. A feeling Neku hated. It was such a useless feeling. This was why he hadn't wanted to get close to anyone. What was the good of being someone's friend if in the end you couldn't do anything for them?

Wait. He heard.....singing? He turned and went to follow the sound.

He picked out the melody on the acoustic guitar, the one leading into the bridge.

"No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you...
If I look hard enough into the setting sun
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes..."

He wasn't paying attention to who else might be walking around. That, and he hadn't met most of Sheol's new arrivals... listening to them flail over the crow was often diverting, but he didn't usually speak up except to be annoying.

Speaking of which, he wondered how Harry was doing without a cabin.

Under normal circumstances, Neku wasn't one to seek out human contact. These were not normal circumstances though. Besides, this guy couldn't be so bad if he was a musician. Neku respected musicians. If the headphones that stayed perpetually attached to his head wasn't too obvious a clue.

He crossed his arms and appeared to be listening but didn't interrupt. That would be rude. He decided to speak only when the guy finished his song. It wasn't the kind of thing he usually listened to, but catchy.

Cerceus was very obviously not human, even from where Neku was standing. For one thing, there was the fact that from the waist down, he was a gigantic fish. Scales in a million shades of green faded into silver on his underbelly, and wide, heavy fins so delicate they were nearly transparent swished slowly in the water as he leaned over the guitar.

"I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm...

I wanna see it painted... painted black!
Black as night, black as coal...
I wanna see the sun... blotted out from the sky...
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black, Yeah!"

A cascade of individual notes apparently finished the song, melting into a slow chord, and he gave the guitar a fond pat.
