So we definately ate a lot of ham, cheese, and bread while in abbenrode.... and I was definately loving the pineapple cream cheese! Ilse (the grandma /Oma) also made us german pancakes for our last lunch there. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i need to learn how to make those greasy delights. ayns enjoeyed them also. Ilse reminded me a lot of what Oma was like. kinda good, kinda sad. either way, i could picture Oma and Opa living in Germany like they live here. Barble drove us to see Seingfired (my mom's other cousin and Karl-Ludwig's brother) and his wife, and we could not speak a word to each other. he resembles opa, and apparently i look like my motha. then stefan, barble, ayns and i went further into the country to find a concentration camp, with the car dying and we started walking... and huge language barrier... all to get there and it is basically a memorial and a feild where things were. it was eerie to be there. the car almost didn't start again... its like the mazda 929 that we had... we got a bit lost, asked for directions for the 6thish time, and found our way home for some ham, cheese and bread. and then we were off to braunshweig wiht karl-ludwig in the drivers seat and us surpassing 200 km/hr. it was fast, but i thought it'd seem faster. they were ever so kind at the train station, and waved until we could see them no more. what a cute family. it will be good to see them in canada and repay the kindness.
berlin was interesting. we learned a lot of history, especially on the walking tour which was like 4 hours long. the holocaust memorial was really symbolic and interesting, and we signed the berlin wall later the next day. don't know if thats really allowed. we were all museumed-out, so we didn't go to any there. o, actually, after the walking tour we went to the jewish museum, and then out for a feast at a cheaper kind of place (non-touristy)... i even shared pizza with ayns. (and an interesting lasangna... and we splurged on milkshakes :) ) the next day we went to a concentration camp by tour, which was very interesting and sad. dand of course, we bought a beer to drink on the streets at night... just for fun. ha ha. we saw a lot of hookers down on of the touristy streets. they all wear corsets over their shirts. then we had a trainride to heildelberg on friday (yesterday). and now we are staying with our friend celia, who we met when she came on an exchange in grade 10. she is from barcelona, but goes to uni here.
i fell in love with heildelberg within hours. my favourite place yet. when we were walking aroung last night, the veiw with the mountains/hills and the river and bridge and castle gave me that same feeling banff does. its like butterflies in my stomach or something. i dunno. anways, we've shopped today and yesterday was the FIRST day since ayns has been here that it hasn't rained. and today i am in shorts and a tank top. i probably burnt. and we've walked way too many kms today... i think we'll bus back. after we get gracories because they are cheaper in the c ity centre. so tonight we part. show celia a little thing called pregame ;) lol. later all!!!!! miss u all of course!!!!!
o, and before i left london , dana sid i needed to try pimms. didn't know what that was, but an alcoholic beverage with that name was being tested at the airport. how conveint. it was delicious!! and then in amsterdam, i saw pimms in the grocerie store. this time they we cookies. so i bought some of those too. they were also delcious!!!! but somehow i gueess that the PIMMS dana was talking about was some third pimms that i didn see.- lol. no, probably the alcohol.
