2 Chapter 3
“Good evening Miss Yoona.” The butler greeted as Yoona entered the white mansion. She took off her heels and sighed in relief as her tired feet stepped on the cold white marbled floor. The butler took her books and bag and she nodded in appreciation.
“Dinner will be served in a few minutes.” He informed the heiress.
“Is father going to eat with me?” she asked, somehow she already knew the answer to that.
“I’m sorry Miss, but your father has to tie up some loose ends in Busan.” He actually looked sympathetic. Yoona heaved a sigh, walking up the marble staircase to her room.
She plopped on her big soft bed as soon as she closed her bedroom door.
Whenever her father wasn’t at home, it’s either she’ll eat with the maid unnies or not eat at all. Yoona didn’t want to eat alone. She never really did.
Her stomach grumbled and she screamed on her pillow from anger. She didn’t want to live like this forever. She wanted a real family--- a family who eats together as they taste their mother’s new recipe and talked about how their day went.
She just wanted her old life back.

As soon as she finished her dinner, she changed into her street clothes and went out the house as quietly as possible.
Yoona hugged her jacket closer to her self as she walked the streets of Seoul. Her eyes wandered along the cars that passed by and the busy people going on with their own lives.
What would have it felt like to have a life like theirs?
Life would have been easier, that’s for sure.
She could feel the cool breeze of the October night air as it gently blows on her long hair. For the first time, she felt freedom.
She checked her phone as it rung and vibrated in her over-sized bag. It was her father.
‘The butler called. Where are you?’ he sounded angry. Yoona sighed, her hand gripping tighter on the phone.
‘Not home, obviously. I’m with my friends.’ It was a lie. She was alone. Yoona continued walking.
‘It’s a school night.’ Yoona rolled her eyes. As if her father cared.
‘I’ll be home before eleven. Bye father.’ She said, stashing her phone inside her bag not even waiting for her father’s response.
She hates it when her father shows no interest in acting like a true father. But she despises it when he pretends to even care. She hates the father-daughter charade when she knew that it was all for show.
Yoona reached a small park and sat down on the hard bench, crossing her arms and slumping in her seat a little. The moonlight reflecting on the moist grass of the park, it was almost deserted as everybody started to go home and have dinner with their own families.
“Yoona shi?” someone said behind her. She turned her head to the side and her eyes instantly widened in surprise.
Omo omo omo omo omo! It’s him! Yoona chanted repeatedly in her mind. She stands up in a flash and bows down ninety degrees at him.
“You know me?” she said as she went back to the bench, he sat down beside her.
“Of course I do.” He grinned. “Who doesn’t?” Yoona laughed, throwing her head back.
“Thank you for earlier by the way.” She told him after composing herself he shook his head.
“It was nothing, I knew you were running late. By the way I’m Lee Donghae.” He began, sticking his hand out to her. She reciprocated, taking his larger hand and shaking it. She felt tingles at the contact.
“Wait. Donghae? As in Eunhyuk oppa’s friend?” Donghae nodded.
“Wow. What a small world.” Yoona commented, smiling.
“So… why are you alone by the way? An heiress is supposed to have bodyguards following her around right?”
Yoona sighed.
“I’m sorry am I being a bit nosy? I’ll try to back off.” He told her, an apologetic expression on his face.
“No! There’s just something on my mind.” She said, crossing and uncrossing her legs.
“Are you sure? I can leave if you prefer to be alone.” He suggested. Yoona shook her head, brown hair swishing from side to side.
“No, it’s okay.” Yoona actually feels comfortable around him, like she’s known him for a long time.
“You know Yoona shi, I can see it in your eyes that you’re not happy about something.” He told her matter-of-factly.
“You do? It’s nothing, really.” She denied, trying her best to compose herself and force a smile on her face.
“We may have just met, but it’s quite evident Yoona shi. It’s all over your face.”
Yoona blew out a gust of wind.
“I just want my old life back. I wish I didn’t leave the academy in the first place.” She finally admitted. Donghae nodded, empathizing. He kept quiet, letting her know that he’ll listen to her.
“Life back then was so easy, simple. My family may not be the richest in town, but at least my mom and my dad works hard for me to enter SM Academy. They tried their best to afford it, and fortunately they did.
When I started studying at the academy I knew I wouldn’t fit in. The students there always have the most expensive things. They talk about the latest things in every possible thing. I, for that matter, only wore secondhand clothing from my cousins. But the unnies still accepted me, they helped me a lot.”
She knew she was blabbering her life story to Donghae. She needed to stop, they barely knew each other, but the understanding expression on his face made her want to talk more.
Yoona contemplated. “I’m sorry, I’m boring you am I?”
“No not at all, just go ahead.” He urged. Yoona took a deep breath and continued.
“So… I studied hard; I also did everything to help my parents. They fought with each other a lot; I knew entering SM was a big jeopardy to our financial status… and their relationship too. But then I got a scholarship so I studied harder; I became the top of our class.
Yuri unnie made it her goal to help me fit in with the other six unnies, of course they see past our financial differences and still acknowledged me. The oppas too, they treated me like their true sister.” Donghae smiled, making Yoona smile too.
“And then I met Kyuhyun oppa.” She stated, crossing her fingers together. Donghae was listening intently by then.
“He… I don’t know how to put it to words… he kept me grounded, I guess.” Donghae nodded.
“When I get carried away from my social life and my grades starts spiraling down, he’s always there to constantly remind me why I was studying at the academy on the first place. Eventually, I got him to open up his naturally reserved self.”
Another ring on her phone, she took out her iPhone and grumbled. It was the butler.
‘Miss Yoona, your father threatened to cut of your credit card if you’re not home by eleven thirty.’ She read.
Yoona checked her watch and was surprised at the pace of time. It was already quarter to eleven.
“I got to get home.” She groaned. They stood up at the same time and exchanged a brief smile before bowing down at each other.
“Thank you Donghae shi. It was nice talking to you.” She said, her insides flopping.
“No, I’ve always been a fan of yours. So it was my pleasure.” Donghae gave her a crooked grin. Yoona blushed ten shades.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then?” she asked, hopeful.
“Yeah.” He answered, smiling warmly.
The two parted ways, inerasable smiles plastered on their faces and an expectant knowledge lingering in their thoughts as they drift off to sleep that…
They’ll be seeing each other again in a couple more hours.
