I started watching the first episodes of the
new winter animes that are coming out ...

My first review is Puella Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica episode 1.

Puella Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica episode 1 review:

Story:
Our cute, pink hair, heroine is Madoka Kaname.
She is a cute school girl with good friends, and a loving family.
The episode starts off with her having a dark dream where she
sees a girl getting badly hurt,  falling from a great height. A rabbit
-ferret like creature tells her that she can help, and can change
destiny, by becoming a magic girl. Next day, at school, a new
transfer student, (with long dark hair) Akemi Homura, joins
Madoka's class. Akemi is believed to be the girl from Madoka's
dream. Akemi is perfect at everything, except that she seems to
be little nuts. She warns Madoka that if she values her life, and
the lives of her friends, and family, that she shouldn't change.
After school Madoka, and her friend, Miki, are hanging out, when
Madoka hears a voice (in her head) crying for help. She follows
the voice to see the rabbit/ferret like creature (from her dream)
been beaten by Akemi. Miki's wards off Akemi using a fire
extinguisher to help Madoka escape with the creature. Akemi
then does some weird spell or illusion to confuse the girls
from escaping. A mysterous blonde girl, name, Nami Tomoe,
tranfroms, and wards off Akemi's illusion/spell, and call Akemi
out on her actions. Akemi leaves unhappy. Naki then introduces
herself, and heals Kyube (the creature). Kyube thanks the girls
and ask Madoka, and Miki to form a contract and become magic
girls.

Art/Animation:
The animation  was great. It has a uniqueness to it's art style,
making it stand out on it's own even more. No complains with
the character designs.

Music:
The Soundtrack was done world famous composer,
Yuki Kajiura, who also did the music for Mai Hime.
So the soundtrack was amazing. The opening theme,
Connect, is done by ClariS, who did the opening theme
song to Oreimo, Irony. I'm totally obsessed, with the
song Irony, so I was really happy to hear another song from
the same artist. (Hoping that they'll be a guest at Anime Expo)

Voice acting:
The voice acting and the voices that was picked for the
characters were prefect. Madoka Kaname for example, is
voiced by Aoi Yuki.  Who voices Iris in Pokemon:Best Wishes
(newest Pokemon season), and Moi Aoyama from The World
God only knows.

My feelings:
I really like how this episode was played out. It might sound
like the same old magic girl formula on paper, but the way the
story was told was exciting, and mysterious. I really enjoyed it's
slight dark edge it has. It made it that much more entertaining
for me. It reminds me a lot of Mai Hime, meets Magical Lyrical
Nanoha (With is a huge plus, considering how much I love Mai
Hime) I have a feeling that  Akemi is not as evil and nuts as she
seems to be. I'm suspicious of Naki. She seems too good to be
true. But then again, I could just be looking too much into it. The
only very tiny, thing I'm worried about is, if the series will live up
to the first episode. Even though it's a magic girl series, I hope
that they keep it's uniqueness, and dark edge.

Over all:
Rating: 4/5 stars ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
I give it at least a 4 out 5 stars.
It was very entertaining, and I'm really looking
forward to see where this series goes. My favorite parts
being it's sightly dark edge, and Yuki Kajiura's music.
I'm wondering if the series will stay up to bar with it's
first episode. I'm most likely going to stick with this series.
