WFC2012 Toronto day two (I think)

Nov 02, 2012 21:51

It's Friday night and I've wandered the parties. Chatted with John Clute about Conan Doyle, Edgar Allan Poe and the Out of this World Exhibit we saw at the British Library last year. David Hartwell suggested that H. Ryder Hagaard was the first serial writer but Clute and I think its Doyle. None of us turned to the Internet. It wasn't that kind of discussion.

I started out the day at the gym with Brenda Cooper. Light snow was falling but not sticking. Toronto is crisply cold.

I cleaned up and met Scott Edelman and crew in the lobby and Headed out to a very upscale Dim Sum place in downtown Toronto. Really. Check out this menu. everything was delicious & kinda adorable.

Pork dumplings

Crab, lamb dumplings.

Emu dumpling. Yes, emu.

Back at the hotel Scott was late for his panel so he skipped it and we took our ukes to the con suite to play. We ended up in two chairs outside the elevator where we had (briefly) captive audiences. We took turns sharing music, techniques, and songs. We got so caught up in it that we played for two hours! Scott forgot about his dinner reservations and missed dinner! Now, if you know Scott Edelman, this is a big deal. seriously.

I had dinner with Brenda Cooper, Kate, and David Levine then. Hurried back for the mass autograph signing. Was good to see Gay and Joe Haldeman--been much too long. I wandered around, took pictures and visited then stopped in at the Tor party and the Clarion West party.

Running on empty now. I took in some music performed by Charles deLint, Patrick Neilson-Hayden, Joe Haldeman and others but I'm took tired and getting stoopid so rather than pulling out my little blue uke to join in, I've taken myself off to my room and soon to bed.

That's the short version.
Goodnight.
