I need to clean up my bike and do routine maintenance. Has anyone ever used one of those chain coming gizmos? I've forgotten much of what I used to know about my bike--as well as forgetting that it needs doing. But taking it into the shop for everything is expensive and time consuming. Suggestions welcome. I ride my bike most days this time of year

1) Chain cleaners are a gift from ghod, you should not only use them but revere them. This from a guy who used to soak his chains in paraffin. Get one and a bottle of cleaner and use it once a week if you can (depending on use and riding conditions)
2) Chain lube: Someone who rides as much as use should buy stock in the company and ask for residuals in product, use it. Your freewheel will thank you.
3) Get a set of flat wrenches, I have had my Daytons since College, it will make everything easy.
4) Get a Freewheel wrench and take your freewheel off on occasion and give it a good soak in the cleaner of your choice. It will also allow you to inspect it for wear.
5)Specialized seals it's bottom brackets, pedals and hubs. Get down on your knees and thank those bikie gods again.
6) Check all your cables and guides and adjust them. If the adjusters are tight make sure to lube the threads when you do get them apart.
7) Check your brake pads for wear and replace them like clockwork. When yo do ask the guy at the bike shop what pads she/he recommends for the way you ride.
Other than that I don't reall know much...
