November 3, 2004
Another election day has come and gone. Confusion still controlled this morning’s air- people held their breath and sighed, exhausted at the thought that there was nothing more for them to do. Some had been waiting months for this day to come, and others couldn’t see this day come fast enough from four years ago. It seems like oh too long ago when campaigning began, when people rounded themselves together and vowed to make a difference… and of course, they claimed it to be for the good of all people but we know it was really only for the good of their people. That’s just the way it is. The media attempted to capture the passion of politics, of people protesting, attending rallies, and waving signs of people they’ve never even met. The conviction of people on TV never really worked. The left is leaning too far left, and right is falling too far right. Neither one could stand to hear the other, and even if they did find a way to burry their pride and open their mind (or moral values) they wouldn’t ever agree. That’s just the way it is. Our country is divided ethnically, religiously, and even more-so economically. We grow up in a group/our group/the people like ourselves. They justify our causes and beliefs and while they acknowledge the existence of the “other side” they abolish it’s ideals from our heads with the group’s right foot. For everything found wrong on one side, there is something equally wrong on the other side- it’s all a matter of which is more important to you and your life and your group and your god. There is no such thing as a selfless person. The Kerry folks are wondering where they went wrong, and the Bush supporters act as if they knew the election was secure from day one. People are back to waiting four more years and question if we’ll even be alive then. Others can finally breath, now that their carrier of moral justice and economic promiser has defeated the others. Our passionate citizens will go back to working their 60 hours and watching TV… just taking a break until the election in 2008. This is America, land of the free.
