!update!
I just had an epiphany. It occured when I was locked out of my room by my roommate (grrr). I got a lovely in-depth tour of how an RA unlocks a door, and it came to me.... how do we all have different keys and they have one key that just unlocks all of our doors?
so i thought about it....
and i was stumped.
so stumped that I actually went to Al's room to have him explain it to me (I've never been one with logic). We came to the conlusion that our key must be missing a notch that only the master key has and that it enables the master key to unlock all the doors, but its not necessary to unlock the door in the first place. But if that is true, then why does a key not fit in a door when it is only missing a notch that the key that does unlock it has? Talk about overanalyzing. If someone can explain the phenomenon of master keys a little better, please enlighten me.
