I applied for a Flight Centre job last week, I feel dirty, but I was desperate. I immediately got a phone interview request the next day, though have to wait a whole week for it! It's on Monday. I was trying to talk myself into thinking it would be good for me to work there. I'd get to learn a reservation system, I'd get travel benefits and I'd be able to talk about travel all day! But in the back of my mind it was always there about how much I hate Flight Centre, it's not heavily substantiated, but I just really don't like them and the more I researched it on the net, the more negative things I found. Think taking a job with a $28000 base pay is good? They reckon you average $42K a year but for the first few months you're going to be on crap money. Their morals are also questionable in the quest to make more money they sometimes sacrifice doing the right thing by people. I'm not good at ripping people off.
I figure if I could just stick it out for 6 -12 months then I'd be able to find other diff jobs more easily in the industry.
But FC only have vacancies in the northern suburbs at the moment which is the worst direction for me since it means I'd have to go through the city, not good at peak hour!
But then I found another job advertising for a Marketing Assistant with Melbourne Aquarium. The place is just across the river from me, only a 10 min walk from my place. It's marketing, which I want to get into and they have penguins!
It's stated as a entry-level position so I hope the pay isn't too crap. But otherwise I think it'd be a really really good job, I've even started trying to come up with possible marketing campaigns haha. I hope I get it, I hope they contact me soon so I can go for interview and get the job and tell FC to shove it hahaha.
I really want this one :( Then I'd be able to settle a little bit more in Melbourne. Not having a job still makes it semi feel like a holiday hahaha. I'm sick of sitting around at home doing nothing.
Though I think I'm going to enrol in a travel writing course. It starts in 3 weeks so hopefully I'll know more about job situation by then to make sure I'll be able to make it to the night classes. They also do a bit in travel photography! I've always wanted to do one of these courses so I'm excited. Also a psychic I saw about 2 months ago told me I'd meet 1 or 2 guys while studying early in 2009 hahahaha.
