From what I understand, they recover from whatever damage they received overnight! Beyond that, it's one of those mysteries that has yet to be solved! I think.

The lab in New Bark had some pretty extensive material since it's... Well, a lab for studying Pokémon. The Center's have a lot of basic reading material though. Including magazines with lots of... interesting articles.
