So I went shopping today. I didn't get anything particularly interesting, just some bras from Victoria's Secret and some shirts from Old Navy. When I went into Borders to buy some books I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were having their Educator's Appreciation Weekend so I got a cute little canvas bag (teachers LOVE bags) and 25% off all the books I ended up buying. Discounts are always good.
The good news though was that I resisted the urge to buy a Cinnabon. And when we went to Uno's later on to eat, I got the chicken fingers meal but instead of getting the french fries that was supposed to come with it, I got BROCCOLI. Go me! So if I keep this up, along with my current schedule of going to the gym once a month, I will probably lose five pounds sometime in the next twenty years.
Now it's time for
thefridayfive:
1. What job do you have, and why do you like/hate it?
I am an elementary school teacher and for the most part I love it. I love teaching children. I hate dealing with their parents and all the paperwork.
2. As a kid, what did you want to be when you "grew up?"
I always wanted to be a teacher. I was one of those kids that loved school and was the teacher's pet. And yes, I played school with all my stuffed animals and imaginary friends. When I got to high school, I let other people convince me that teaching wasn't a good job and that I should do something "better". I liked writing and my English teachers said I should persue journalism. So when I went to college I majored in English (since there wasn't a journalism major, just a concentration in it). I had an internship at a newspaper office and HATED it. I volunteered at an elementary school for tutoring and LOVED it. So that's when I knew for sure teaching was for me.
3. Is the job you have now anything like what you imagined as a kid?
Somewhat. For the most part it is. I honestly never thought the paperwork would be this ridiculous.
4. Do you have a five-year career plan?
Not really. I hope to get started on my master's degree in either elementary education and/or curriculum and instruction soon, if I could just stop being lazy and fill out the darn applications and loan forms.
5. In order to get the job of your dreams, is there anything you wouldn't do? Why?
I wouldn't do anything like whoring myself out or anything drug-related of course. I pretty much already have my dream job, so I don't know.
